  • You know, Malcolm X has some similar comments in his autobiography. Something about preferring Goldwater style racism–you know, no fear of being bamboozled. Major Colvin also makes a similar comment in Season 3 of The Wire, when he’s showing Carcetti around the “free zone.” He recounted a story of an old factory owner that refused to hire blacks, then used it as a segue into a discussion of being open and honest (which, of course, was ironic since the free zone was done without telling the bosses).

    Anyways, I know this is a Buchanan-bashing thread, but I think we have a lot to learn from Buchanan–a lot to learn about what a helluva lot of Americans think. Just sayin.

    When people speak of Affirmative Action everyone forgets the original form of Affirmative Action, otherwise known as legacy. Or do people really believe that George W. Bush was the most deserving student to go to Yale with an SAT score 200 point below the average freshman at the time? At least Sotomayor reached the top of her class, what was Bush’s excuse?

    Sigh, I’ve been in disgust with that man for nigh on 20 years, he was an old fart then and an even older fartier fart now. I wish he and his trodlydyte (sp?) sister would just go away. Then I wish all the far righters would do the same. Are there any moderates left in the Elephant party?
