- Superconservative Pat Robertson has endorded not Mitt Romney, not Sam Brownback — if he were still in the race of course — but Rudy Giuliani. No, for real. The same Rudy Giuliani who supports abortion rights, civil unions for gay couples, has been married three times, is estranged from his children, and who announced his separation from his last wife during a press conference before he even informed her. The move is the latest manifestation of a divide among Christian conservatives on how to balance politics with principle after Bush vacates the White House, according to the Times. (We already know Rudy has strong opinions on the ownership of ferrets, but did he take it a step further and promise Robertson that, if elected, he’d pass a federal law banning same-sex couples from adopting pets?)
- Parents in Iowa are disappointed that presidential hopeful Barack Obama allegedly refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance at a steak fry in September, according to an outraged new email that’s circulating. But Obama swears that’s not true: he puts his hand on his heart when reciting the pledge; for the Star Spangled Banner, he just sings. “It’s on C-SPAN,” he said, citing video evidence.
- Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa is requesting the financial documents of several nationally-recognized Christian ministries, including two in metro Atlanta, for their “opulent, or as the ministers would say, blessed, lifestyles,” according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. The investigation will focus on Bishop Eddie Long, Bennie Hinn, the Rev. Creflo Dollar and his wife Taffi Dollar, among others.
