This week’s New Yorker is pretty strong (there’s a fun little feature on Crawford, TX, and the townspeople’s disaffection with Bush) but if you can, you should definitely check out George Packer’s piece on poor white voters in Ohio. Even as the economic news gets worse every day — which usually pushes voters towards the Democrats — those Ohioans are likely to sit the election out. The reasons are what you’d expect, but there’s a good deal of nuance there as well.
