Even His Doghouse Got a Backyard.

From the WP:

First it was his seven houses. Now, Sen. John McCain has to explain his fleet of 13 cars.

According to a Newsweek item published online today, McCain and his wife, Cindy, own more than a dozen cars, including three electric bubble-shaped cars, called GEM’s that the magazine says are popular in retirement communities.

But the ones getting him into trouble are the foreign-made cars. According to the magazine, the McCains own a Honda sedan and a Volkswagen convertible — despite having once claimed to always buy American-made cars.

Well, at least we know he’s a good driver. His hands are always at 10 and 2. </bad taste>

Funny, the article says the only car in John McCain’s name is a Cadillac. The others are in his wife’s name. Why would the UAW president on a DNC conference call try and confuse his cars with hers? He should be told that women can own their own property independent of their husband. This seems to be another story like the house story, it seems juicy on the surface but then there is just nothing to it.

Scott, married people share assets, and the article also clearly notes that some of the vehicles are for family use.

Memo to the media: The McCains are wealthy.

    The end.

    Well, sort of …

Cindy McCain is estimated to be worth $100 million, and even though the prenuptual agreement she has with her husband states that her finances are to be kept separate from his, is it realistic to expect that a family that size and with the number of properties they have are going to share a car?

If the only car registered in McCain’s name was foreign, okay, maybe there’s a story. I think the media is reaching–again.

    quadmoniker:

Yes married people share assets. However, McCain is not being vilified for sharing assets but for owning them, which is a small but important distinction. So we ought to condemn McCain because he shares cars with his wife? Surely with all of the other lies McCain is accused of telling there is better fodder for a story out there?

Scott, if married people share assets, then McCain owns the cars, whether they’re in his name or not.
