
StuffWhitePeopleLike, simultaneously hilarious and problematic, has really blown up in the month or so it’s been in existence — 4 million hits. Best entries: Standing Still at Concerts, Expensive Sandwiches, Mos Def.
Last week, the blog’s mastermind popped up on NPR’s Talk of the Nation, and he said the site was born in a conversation about The Wire. (Yeah, we made yet another Wire reference. What of it?) One of the callers said blogging was definitely stuff white people like. Hmph.
I thought of you when I read that Mos Def post. Did you read the interview with the creator on The Assimilated Negro?
I think it’s a clever blog, and mostly harmless. Why do you think it’s problematic?
I think it’s hilarious, but how much stuff can the author write about?
Hmph indeed. When I first stumbled onto that blog, I too found it (un-problematically) hilarious. Then, the creator used the term “wigger” during the aforementioned Assimilated Negro interview, and my eyebrow shot straight up.
I like a lot of white people stuff, lol.
THe expensive sandwiches is what got me. That always killed me that whereever I work there’s always these $8-9 sandwiches that people are happily paying for. It was a rude awakeing after going to college in Philly and paying for a stacked $5 Hoagie
