Christine Beatty Resigns, Kilpatrick Still Silent.

Christine Beatty stepped down yesterday. No surprise there.

“I painfully regret the devastation that the recent reports have caused to the citizens of Detroit, to my coworkers, to the mayor’s family and to my family and friends,” she said in a statement (you can read it in full here.)

Kwame Kilpatrick, for his part, seems to be hoping that it will just get better if he lays low for a hot minute. ‘Cuz that always works.

I hope it was good Kwame.

  • I guess this goes to show that pimpin really ain’t easy!

  • IMO, Kilpatrick is going to have his head served to him on a platter. Does he honestly think that the citizens and the goverment of Detroit are just going to sit by and watch him make a mockery (in a sense) of all of them. Us Black Men have it hard enough in life and professionally as is, and Kilpatrick is just going to make it harder for the next generation coming along…smh

From what I’m hearing, it would be premature of Kilpatrick to step down voluntarily. His general counsel is predicting he won’t be charged at all (albeit without havreading Kilpatrick’s and Beatty’s exchanges via text message), and today the Detroit City Council declined to launch an investigation into his behaviour (it well may in the future).

I get the sense that this is going to go away.

  • LH:

The council members who decided not to investigate Kilpatrick said they would reconsider it — and were in favor of doing so — when some concil members returned from Taiwan.

This is by no means over.
