Believe it or not, I’ve been known to be a jackass. Ask anyone who had the misfortune of knowing me in college. Or a couple years ago. I really hope President Obama isn’t asked about it anytime soon:
Anyway, lots of things have happened since our last Monday roundup. Here’s a few of [...]

So, earlier today I was checking out the video of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton* momentarily losing her cool after being asked a question that she thought was about what “Mr. Clinton” thought about an international trade issue:
“”You want me to tell you what my husband thinks?” she asked incredulously when the [...]

So where do we go from here? President Obama has been portrayed as a monkey, witch doctor, various types of pimps and now The Joker. Certainly, there’s more variations on this general theme.
But I really want to know, what’s the endgame? Is this supposed to advance some principled political opposition? Or merely “to get their country back”?:

Harriet “Inadequate Black Male” Christian wants to be considered for Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat. Yeah, yeah, y’all. We know.

There are a lot of names being bandied about as replacements for HRC in the Senate, should she be confirmed as Secretary of State. ABC News is reporting that Caroline Kennedy has been asked by Gov. Paterson if she has any interest in stepping into the role.
A Democrat who would know [...]

Obama to Name Cabinet Nominees. Obama is finna formally announce HRC’s nomination to Secretary of State in the next hour, meaning Kevin Drum has to eat his hat. (The vaguely-superhuman Samantha Power , the Pulitzer-winning foreign policy wonk and close Obama friend who was jettisoned from the Obama campaign for calling HRC [...]

Clinton goes to State.
I have a million thoughts on this. What do you think?
Ezra:
People have been thinking about this cabinet appointment too much on the level of symbolism. But this is a real job with real responsibilities. And one of those responsibilities is stocking, and managing, the government’s foreign policy apparatus. [...]

“[Bill Clinton's] wife was running for president. If you give me a choice of pissing off a whole race of people or my wife, I’m sorry, I gotta piss off a whole race of people. Sorry blackies! Go eat some chicken! … Right Larry? You’ve been married twelve times, right?” — Chris [...]

Two words: Harriet. Tubman.
Hillary Clinton gave what is, in my estimation, the best speech of her career (text and video).
Ta-Nehisi says it was magnanimous, and that he was sorry when she finished because he wanted to hear more. Ezra calls the speech [...]

Daddy Yankee: Not Feeling Obama.
by Henry Burton
I do not have immediate access to a laptop and I cannot download photos immediately simply because I do not have press credentials and I am involved in real politiking that leaves me no time to take pictures with/of Omarosa, Bun B, Hill Harper, Suzanne Malevaux (she is sooo bad yall dont even know), Spike Lee, Cindy Lauper, Wyclef, Slicky Willy Clinton, or Barry’s wife and two children (amazing fam).
Tuesday morning’s buzz was of course about Hill’s speech but for some it was also about Daddy Yankee’s salute to John McCain in Phoenix. When given the chance to discuss this with a few Latino delegates, some called him a sellout and an artist who may have just committed career suicide. I just thought it to be par for the course when it came to Latino-Moreno relations.
What I have seen and experienced is a delegate pool that is nervous and apprehensive about what it is they are supposed to do on Wednesday. Many have been steadfast supporters of Bill and Hillary Clinton. And many state leaders do not have firm control over what their independent delegates may do. Remember, the Clintons have dominated and controlled the Democratic scene since 1991. Many of their initial leaders have gone on to teach and mentor Clinton disciples, who carry on the Democratic Party tradition. So many of these disciples have gone on to work in Obama, Edwards, Richardson and even Biden campaigns. The root of the tree is strong. More…

Publius is geeked. Nick Beaudrot at Cogitamus gets his bottom-line on. Ann over at Feministing seems pretty ambivalent, and points to Biden’s middling record on women’s issues as head of the Judiciary Committee. Ezra Klein says the pick means Team Obama is spoiling for a fight, and Ta-Nehisi thinks that none of [...]

hilzoy’’s take:
In general, if you had only Penn’s memos to go by, you’d assume that Clinton was obviously superior to Obama in every way, and that all the campaign really needed to do to win was to display her virtues and his faults while avoiding any obvious pitfalls. Even if that [...]

The much-anticipated Atlantic article which looks at the Clinton campaign’s collapse from the inside is finally, blessedly up. Joshua Green managed to get his hands on copies of memos from people in Clinton’s staff — he even scanned them onto the Atlantic’s site. It’s worth the wait, folks; I’m only two pages in and some of the detais (like keeping tabs on Monica Lewinsky in Oregon to make sure she and HRC didn’t accidentally cross paths) are absolutely hilarisad. Were she not Hillary Clinton, her campaign would never have lasted past March — it was that dysfunctional. More…

“Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket.” — Pat Buchanan.
I’m of two minds on the New York Times magazine’s article on what Barack Obama’s possible presidency may mean to traditional black political establishment. The CBC and its ilk should have their collective [...]
