Nicole, a friend and old New York Times colleague, snaps a photo with her husband and son in Rahway, N.J. The electricity there still isn’t back online after  Hurricane Sandy, so their polling place is being powered by generators.

Ha, ha. Yeah, it wasn’t really what you asked for, but there were no lines — it was just freezing and dark!

We have power at home, but we’re the lucky ones; many still have none, and there are still trees down everywhere. But the police brought the generator and guided people in the dark, so what more can you ask for?

Hearing people should be up and running by Thursday, but who knows?
