  • Marvin is my #2 favorite male voice of all time, after Sam Cooke. This seals it.

Some 20 years ago, this version came on the radio and I was playing cards with a bunch of friends. I told them that CCR had a version that was a hundred times better then this. These guys weren’t into Credence so wanted to her the “better” version. So I went and found it. Half way thru the first verse I apologized. I told them my memory had failed me and that by far the Marvin Gaye version was superior.
It’s funny sometimes how your memory works. If Marvin was still with us, he may have lost his voice by now, especially for those high parts. But boy could he kill both his his voice, and with his timing.

A truly incredible legend. The brightest stars burn out first.

  • Jim Lofrano

Raw talent, this man is quite possibly the finest vocalist America has ever produced.
