Question for the Room.

Picture 2

If you were going to nominate/vote for us for a 2009 Black Weblog Award — and you will, if you know what’s good for you — which category/categories do you think would best suit us?

More navel-gazing: are we even a black blog?

  • Of course you’re a black blog. Look at the template, for god’s sake.

  • Any use of ‘bourgie’ = black. Its the 11th commandment.

Wow. Honestly, folks, I’ve been reading (and appreciating) about six months, and I had the impression you were mostly very sharp white allies, with a minority of poc contributors. I think I had that impression because of this in your about statement:

“a running, semi-orderly conversation about class and politics and media and gender and whatever else we can think of.”

In hindsight, it of course makes sense that you are a ‘black blog’ (and I’m used to assuming most blogs are white-authored, unfortunately), but… just wondering… what’s the actual body count? why omit the mention of race in your statement when it’s clearly central to your perspective?

    Respectfully submitted,
    s.

Doh. Clearly I should have read further down the “about” page.
