Update on James Bevel.

A commenter said that James Bevel,  a major figure in the Civil Rights Movement who was convicted in April of molesting his daughters, has died of pancreatic cancer, but I can’t find any confirmation. It appears, though, that he was released last month on appeal.

  • I was just reading about him in a book about the movement – all of them were larger than life.

    There is no way King would be as iconic as he is if he had lived.

    For all the troubles Bevel had, I will still have to tip my hat to him for staring Mayor Daley the First down in Chicago, and sticking it out on the streets so we could get out of the mess segregation was.
