I had the exact same thoughts as QM and Rakia. I can’t believe it was that easy to get her on the phone.

Rakia: I totally agree. She is such a novice that she doesn’t know how unlikely it is that the president of France would just call her up to chat about hunting and flirt. Also, the tone of her voice is so condescending. She’s ignorance personified.

I thought this was a little cruel when I first heard about it. But having listened to the whole conversation now, I think Palin and her camp take some of the blame. I can’t believe how easily these pranksters were able to get her on the phone. There’s no way a serious politician — on a presidential ticket no less! — shouldn’t have a better procedure for patching through dignitaries. Could I just call up with a phony English accent and say I’m the Queen of England? Apparently I could.

For me, this prank just underscores how inexperienced Palin is. Her staff isn’t helping. (Peep how flustered Palin’s assistant was.)

For me the funniest part isn’t where she’s getting “pranked,” but rather the way she cheerily intones “Hello!” like she’s talking to a very small child at the beginning followed by “I always do that!” when “Sarkozy” isn’t on the line yet.

The reason this bit doesn’t work so well (for me, at least) is because these Montreal dudes didn’t get what Tina Fey nailed–Palin doesn’t need to be mocked. Just let her speak for herself.
