The Omnivore's Hundred.

And now a break from your regularly scheduled programming…

[Via Ezra]

There is a list of 100 foods omnivores should eat before they die, posted at Very Good Taste. It was too interesting to pass up, so I followed the instructions. And for the veggies out there (I’m not, but some of you are), here’s a list for ya’ll. And on a serious-ish note, obviously, having access to these foods is a function of privilege, so think of this as another version of a privilege walk.

Here we go…

1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten. (I italicized for readability.)
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.
4) Optional extra: Post a comment here at www.verygoodtaste.co.uk linking to your results.

  • I have never understood liking black pudding. We eat a lot of weird shit down here but that’s just too weird for me.
What do you have against chitterlings though? You don’t eat stuff like pig-foot/pig-tail souse?

  • UE- I just can’t do it. Even the smell… once, at Howard, they were cooking chitlins in the kitchens for some undisclosed event, and it was such a turnoff, I didn’t even go to the Cafe for my lunch.

My Jamaican grandmother was a huge fan of pig ‘trotters’ but I’ve never been able to back that one. And I know, oxtail isn’t much better. It’s a completely arbitrary mental thing.

    In sum, oxtail=yes, chitlins=no, goat’s head soup=yes, fish head=no.

And black/blood pudding? Ew. (And where are you located?)

  • I’m in St. Vincent (just west of Barbados, just north of Grenada). I don’t like fish head either especially if we’re talking fish head soup…with okra…ew. Souse is wicked and bad though – you’re missing out :-) You say you eat goat head, what about mannish water?

  • Yeah, mannish water, that’s what I was thinking of. Haven’t had in a couple of years, but I can drink a bowl or three, lol.

I’ve never heard such a compelling case for souse… so maybe I’ll rethink my position on it. :-)

  • Chitlings. Fucking chitlings. ugh.

  • ladyfresshh

    kobe beef but not argentinian
    hrrm

  • Black pudding is seriously good. It sounds gross, but basically it’s a salty pate.
