A Biden-Ass Roundup. (Or, Stop Biden My Style.)

Publius is geeked. Nick Beaudrot at Cogitamus gets his bottom-line on. Ann over at Feministing seems pretty ambivalent, and points to Biden’s middling record on women’s issues as head of the Judiciary Committee. Ezra Klein says the pick means Team Obama is spoiling for a fight, and Ta-Nehisi thinks that none of the G.O.P’s choices want to see Biden in a debate. Even though she wasn’t a Clinton supporter, Bazelon says that an Obama/HRC ticket would have at least been exciting. (On the other side, CPL is really glad it wasn’t HRC.)

Jake Tapper was tipped off when a Secret Service detail was dispatched to Delaware. You can almost hear HRC gritting her teeth as she dictated her statement to a staffmember. McCain called Biden, an old friend, to congratulate him. Hagel issues a not-very-Republican-sounding statement on the pick, which makes me think he might want the SecDef job in an Obama administration.* My co-blogger, shani-o, never got the text message, and she wasn’t alone. John McCain camp expects Obama to get a 16-point post-convention bounce (which, of course, won’t happen, and so they can point to the convention as a failure when it inevitably doesn’t).

Oh, and lest we forget: our buddy Dr. Bitch and her co-blogger will be blogging from Denver, and she graciously gave us permission to cross-post when things get popping.

Biden — the perfect foil for Palin!

  • Thanks for the recap of reactions. I am going to read some of them later.

For a candidate with the slogan “Change We Can Believe In” Biden could hardly be a worse choice. He is quite the D.C. insider and hardly about change. Let’s not forget Biden’s vote on the bankruptcy reform bill that helped his top contributors at the credit card companies, one of which was employing his son Hunter as a consultant.
